Recycle Bin Error

Unread postby Darfuria » October 16th, 2007, 3:46 pm

Whenever I attempt to empty the recycle bin after deleting files, I get the following error:

"Cannot delete desktop: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

No such file "desktop" is actually in the recycle bin.

Here's a hijackthis log that I ran right after a reboot.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sorry about the delay in responding

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Hello

Your problem is not a malware related issue, so we will see if we can repair the Recycle Bin problem.

Click on the following link and run the registry repair that will download.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/restorerecyclebin.reg

Let me know if that works.

Hey.

Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem.

Hello

Please print out or write down the following instructions carefully. You will not have access to them during the fix.
Remember, the text has to be as I have set out.

Reboot into SAFE MODE with Command Prompt
By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer
beep when you reboot it (some versions of windows will display 'Starting Windows' with a grey progress bar)
you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.

If it does not work on the first try, reboot and try again, as you have to be quick when you press it.

I have found that during boot up, right after the computer displays the equipment , memory, etc
installed on your computer, if you start lightly tapping the F8 key, the system will usually display the menu.

When it starts first type in the following

attrib -h -s -r c:\recycler

then type

del c:\recycler

It will ask are you sure (Y/N)
answer Y.

Then reboot back into Normal Mode and let me know if this cured the problem.
