Hi, recently my computer has been running pretty slow. I am currently using the trial version of Kaspersky Internet Security and I recently did a scan. It detected a Trojan program Backdoor.Win32.Hupigon.bde. My intel.dll file is infected and was impossible to disinfect so I deleted the file. Afterwards, two other files were infected and I also deleted them. They are File: C:\System VolumeInformation\_restore{46DE8921-1D39-44D2-A9E9-64119261F211}\RP692\A0375993.DLL
and File: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{46DE8921-1D39-44D2-A9E9-64119261F211}\Fifoed\A0375227.DLL

So far, no other warnings have popped up. Is my problem fixed or is Backdoor.Win32.Hupigon.bde still in my computer? The following is my HJT file.

Got rid of a few programs here and there, most notably BitComet. Here's the updated log. So far there has been no other pop ups about a trojan, but I would still like to make sure.

GramCleric,
Sorry about the delay in responding.
When you posted a reply to your own thread, it removed your post from our unanswered list, where helpers usually look.
----------------------------------------------------
If you have had a backdoor Hupigon infection (I can't tell just from your log), there is a risk that all passwords and account numbers ever used on the computer have been stolen.
Because of the infection's backdoor functionality, the basic security of your PC is very likely compromised, and there is no way to be sure it can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the Windows Operating System. The reason for this is that the infection can make undetectable changes to your security settings, which may enable a re-installation of the infection after the machine is "cleaned" and reconnected to the internet. (This infection can, in effect, leave a "cellar door" unlocked so it can come back later and gain entry).
If you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so. This is your choice to make.
If you wish to clean your machine, or verify that it is clean, with the above caveat, proceed as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------
You have two antivirus programs on your PC at the same time. They will conflict with each other and cause system instability and/or improper AntiVirus protection.
Choose to keep just one: either the Kaspersky Internet Security or Symantec(Norton) Antivirus, and Uninstall the other, Using Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable Trojan Hunter Guard
Go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red. Right click it and select settings. Uncheck "Load at startup" and "Enabled".
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HijackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install CCleaner
  • Download CCleaner from here
  • Double click on ccsetupXXX_slim.exe to start the installation of CCleaner. (XXX is the version number)
  • Click OK
  • Click Next
  • Click I agree
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Once the installation has finished, click Finish
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Options in CCleaner and run Cleaning Scan.
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
( Do not use the Issues block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).
  • Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.
  • Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.
  • Run Cleaning Scan. Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the Installed Programs List from CCleaner
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
In the Left Pane, click Tools
Verify that Uninstall is highlighted in color, or click on it.
In the lower Right, click Save to Text File.
Pull down the arrow at the top of the Save dialog and choose Desktop as the location.
You can leave the filename as install.txt
Click Save
Exit CCleaner by clicking on the X button in the upper right of the CCleaner window.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply, along with the installed program list from CCleaner..

Gramcleric,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PCTAVApp] "C:\Program Files\PC Tools AntiVirus\PCTAV.exe" /MONITORSCAN
O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) MO (RPCSE) - Unknown owner - C:\Program.exe (file missing)

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath.
Copy and paste this filepath:
C:\Program.exe

Then hit Submit or Upload, depending on the scanner.
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy and/or save the result with Notepad and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html
or virus.org here: http://scanner.virus.org/
-----------------------------------------------------
Using Internet Explorer, Please Do an Online Scan with Kaspersky WebScanner.
Go here to run an online scannner from Kaspersky.
  • Click on "Kaspersky Online Scanner"
  • A new smaller window will pop up. Press on "Accept". After reading the contents.
  • Now Kaspersky will update the anti-virus database. Let it run.
  • Click on "Next">"Scan Settings", and make sure the database is set to "extended". And check both the scan options. Then click OK.
  • Then click on "My Computer", and the scan will start.
  • Once finished, save the log to your Desktop as filename KAV.txt
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

So, in summary, we are looking for three items
  • Results from the Jotti scan of the file C:\Program.exe
  • Contents of KAV.TXT on your desktop
  • A New HiJackThis log

There appears to be a few problems.

1.) Jotti responded with "The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

2.)I don't have IE 7, due to the fact that I deleted or attempted to delete it in the past, so when I install IE 7, the shortcut/program is nowhere to be found. Will I still get the same effect by scanning with firefox using the IE tab?

The following is my HJT log after reboot

In addition, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Right click Start and choose Explore. Then Double click C:\ and choose View, Details from the top menu.
Scroll down if necessary, locate Program.exe, right click it and choose Properties. See if it says anything about source, author, or size.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Run AVG Anti-Spyware:

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open. Do not run a scan yet.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
  • It is essential that you get the update - keep trying until successful. (Note: If you have problems getting the update, you can download an installer for the full database from here (save it on your desktop). Once you have downloaded the installer, make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed and then double-click on avgas-signatures-full-current.exe to install the database).
Please set up the program as follows:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is... click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Do not automatically generate reports. <== This is important
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
Close all open windows.
  • Click on Scanner on the program's toolbar.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan your computer.
  • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button (*** This must done before saving the report ***)
    • When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
    • Then click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Please post the Report, and anything you learn about Program.exe

Gramcleric,
You are Ok now.
I would recommend keeping AVG Anti-Spyware, and scanning with it every week. If you get the paid version it will update automatically, and stay monitoring.
