G'Day Hutchdave

Welcome to Malware Removal Forums. My name is Vino Rosso - if it helps, you can call me Vino for short.

1 - VundoFix
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

2 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  • the vundofix.txt report
  • a new HijackThis log
Thanks
Vino

I have just run trojan hunter eval.copy full scan and it cleared half a dozen items but on reboot i got a rundll error saying can't load C;/windows/system32/jewbuibl.dll.
I also removed spydoctor as I was unsure of its use.
I will continue to follow all advice in your forum .
Here is the new hjt logfile:

Hi hutchdave

Please follow my instructions and only run the tools/fixes I ask. We will tidy things up once your computer is free from infection. Thanks :)

OK, Vundo can take a couple of runs to eradicate.

1 - Rename HijackThis
Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Right-click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename
Rename HijackThis.exe to reveal26.exe

2 - Scan for Vundo

Please print these instructions

Boot into Safe Mode

To reduce the chance of AntiSpyware interfering with the fixes, please stop all antispyware on your computer. If you right-click on the icon in the systems tray you will find an option to ‘exit’. When you reboot, this will all return to normal.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run the tool.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, right click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files.
Carefully type the entry below into the top box:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcawuv.dll

Click Add Files and Click Close Window.
Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot; allow the computer to reboot and VundoFix to load.

DO NOT click "Scan for Vundo" again.
Just add the very same file as before and click Remove Vundo.

3 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  • the vundofix.txt report
  • a new HijackThis log - using reveal26.exe
Remember, if you can, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

Thanks
Vino

Hi

OK, next steps...

1 - Smitfraud Fix
Delete any version of Smitfraud you may already have - this is important as Smitfraud is updated very frequently
Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop from >here<
Double-click the file SmitfraudFix.exe and select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and pressing Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

2 - Uninstall List
Run HijackThis then click on Open the Misc Tools section
If HijackThis is still open, click on Config > Misc Tools
Click on Open Uninstall Manager...
Click on Save list...
Leave the default filename as uninstall_list.txt and save the file, noting where it has been saved
Close HijackThis.

3 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and post:
  • the SmitFraudFix output file rapport.txt
  • the uninstall_list.txt
Good Luck

Hi

Let's tidy a couple of things up and run a scan.

1 - Delete suspect files
Using Windows Explorer, browse for the following files and delete as instructed
NB Some files may have already been deleted by earlier actions so don't worry if you do not see them:

If you cannot see these files, you may have to reveal hidden files as follows:
In Windows Explorer, select Tools > Folder Options > View
Set 'Hidden files and folders' to Show hidden files and folders
Untick Hide protected operating system files.
OK
Instructions can also be found >here<.
** These files are hidden to stop something important being removed accidentally. It is advisable to hide them again after fixing your computer. **

C:\WINDOWS\System32\jewbuibl.dll <=== This file only
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpipmon.exe <=== This file only

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

2 - Clean Out Temporary Files
Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from >here<
This is a stand-alone program that does not need to be installed. Save it to a convenient location and make a shortcut on your desktop. Using this program will remove temporary files, temporary internet files and cookies from your system, which will mean that any scans will run faster.
  • Make sure that all browser windows are closed
  • Double-click the shortcut on your desktop to run the program.
  • Under Main, choose Select All
  • UNtick Prefetch
  • Click Empty Selected
  • If you use Firefox browser,
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
    • Click on Empty Selected
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please untick that option.
  • If you use Opera browser,
    • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All
    • Click on Empty Selected
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please untick that option.
  • Click Exit to close.
3 - Scan With AVG Anti-Spyware
Start AVG Anti-Spyware and allow the program to update itself. If you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
You will need to change the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is... click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click the Scanner icon at the top and then click the Settings Tab.
  • Under How to act? click Recommended actions and select Quarantine from the menu.
You can now close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not scan yet.

You will need to reboot your computer into Safe Mode for the next steps. It would be a good idea for you to print these instructions, as you will not have access to the internet.

Important: If you have an always on connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

4 - Boot to Safe Mode and Scan
  • Restart your computer.
  • Continually tap the F8 button as your computer is booting (a menu appears).
  • Use up-arrow key to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
Close all open windows and then start AVG Anti-Spyware, which you downloaded earlier
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan your computer.
  • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button (*** This must done before saving the report ***)
    • When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
    • Then click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

5 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  1. the AVG Anti-Spyware Scan report
  2. a new HijackThis log
  3. and a description of how your PC is behaving - what problems are you now experiencing?
Remember, if you can, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

Good Luck
Vino

Hi HutchDave

great news ,everthing seems to be going really well, the puter is quicker than it has been for quite a while.

Excellent!

Question ,do you think that all the stuff we just removed was aquired at the same time or over time?

The problem generally is once you get infected with one piece of malware, your system can be open to many others.

Your HJT log now appears to be clean however, unless I'm missing something...

1 - Firewall
I have looked through your HijackThis log and cannot see any sign that you are using a firewall. Have you got Windows XP firewall running? If not, please turn it on via Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Windows Firewall. This is better than nothing but it only protects against incoming traffic. It doesn't protect you against outgoing baddies trying to "phone home". I strongly recommend that you install a firewall that monitors traffic in both directions. Please have a look at this article >here< which provides good information and links to free firewalls.

Please install a firewall and post back with a fresh HJT log - after which I can provide you with some additional information.

Thanks
Vino
