Hi pcp3,
Except for the risks of being on AOL and its Instant messaging, There isn't a lot showing in your log. Let's look deeper.
Print this instruction or save it to a notepad file on your desktop, as you will not have internet access to read it during the Safe Mode portion.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download Blacklight Beta from here :
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try_blacklight.html
* Hit I accept. It will take you to the download page.
* Download blbeta.exe and save it to the C:\ root directory.
* Once saved... double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
Go to Start-->Run, copy in the following text and press Enter:
C:\blbeta.exe /expert
(space between blbeta.exe and /expert)

Accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
Click > scan, Then > next
You'll see a list of all items found.
Now click 'rename'
There will also be a log in C:\ with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste the contents of this log into your next reply.
------------------------------------------------
Initiialize AVG AntiSpyware Start it up.
1. In the main Status Menu,. Select Change state to inactivate Resident Shield and Automatic Updates.
2. Then right click on the AVG Anti-Spyware icon in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
3. Go to your Windows Start button, choose Run and then type: services.msc
This will bring up the services console.
  • At the bottom of the Services Window, select the Extended tab and scroll down the list to find AVG Anti-Spyware guard.
  • When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
  • In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the Stop button.
  • From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on Manual.
  • Now click Apply, then OK and close the Services window.
Back in the AVG Anti-Spyware Status Menu. Select the Update button and click Start update. Wait until you see the "Update succesfull" message. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
    - Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
    - Under "How to Scan?" check all (default).
    - Under "Possibly unwanted software" check all (default).
    - Under "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected (default).
    - Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".
  • Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
  • Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. If Explorer or other programs are open during the scan that means certain files will also be in use. Some malware will insert itself and hide in areas that are "protected" by Windows when the files are being used. This can hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.
  • When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the "Apply all actions" button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button.
  • Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20061031-090001.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
  • Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done and Reboot your machine.

Open the report in Notepad and paste the contents in your next reply, along with the contents of the Blacklight log.

pcp3,
With an infection like the ones you describe, there are a few requirements on your responses if you want to get clean.

These types of trojans download other things - they can do so every time you go online. So you have to respond promptly, and do exactly as requested, not what you may think is helpful. I need to see the logs, not your interpretation of what is important in them.

The logs you have posted are now too old to be used for cleaning.
Please run a log from AVG Anti-Spyware in Safe Mode per my previous instructions, then reboot to Normal mode and run a new HJT log.

I will respond quickly, and when I post a reply instruction, it will be important for you to quickly perform the tasks assigned as well.

Only if you can do these things will we be able to assist you.

If you wish to continue, I will be expecting logs from AVG AntiSpyware in Safe Mode, and HiJackThis in Normal Mode.
Thanks

pcp3,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and install CCleaner from here.
Set Options in CCleaner and run Cleaning Scan. Open the CCleaner program.
Do not use the Issues block.
  • Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.
  • Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.
  • Run Cleaning Scan. Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.
  • Reset Temp File Removal for Regular Use.
Click on the Options block on the left. Select the Advanced button. Check "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts, the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process. then display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

pcp3,
Please go into your firewall setttings and disallow automatic bypass for emule and Lime wire. They are a likely source of the problems you have now. If you still have them on your machine, I strongly suggest you delete them using Add/Remove from the Control Panel. Peer to Peer file sharing used to be fairly safe;
Now it's NOT.
Downloading files from undocumented sources is a way to stay infected continuously. Your choice. Your risk.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Your Computer to Show All Files
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended).
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
In addition, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath.
Copy and paste this filepath:
C:\Documents and Settings\paul piccirillo\Desktop\My Music\Setup.exe

Then hit Submit or Upload, depending on the scanner.
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy and/or save the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use one of the following scanners instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html
or virus.org here: http://scanner.virus.org/
------------------------------------------------------
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Alternative site is here : http://downloads.securitycadets.com/SmitfraudFix.exe
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
A text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that text file report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is one of the tools used here to help fix your computer. It is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, or a malicious file, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Please reply with a copy of the Smitfraud log file and the Jotti results from that uploaded file. Also let me know if you decided to remove the P2P file sharing apps or not.

Folder Deletion.
In Windows Explorer (My Computer), select View, Details. Then navigate to the folders shown below and Delete them, if found.
In the case of a folder removal, you may have to delete all the underlying files and folders before an entire folder can be deleted.

C:\Program Files\emule\
C:\Program Files\Limewire\

If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and check Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete. If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab. If the filename is in there, highlight it and click End Process, then retry Delete.
Note the name and location of any item you find but cannot delete.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Backdoor Trojan that was on your machine is named W32.Winet
You can read a summary here, and also check the technical details tab:
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2003-052013-3927-99&tabid=1

This type of trojan is very serious and can do anything it wishes to your machine while it is resident.
For that reason, you have to suspect that any confidential information, either resident or transmitted from the machine, may have been stolen.
This includes any passwords, User IDs, account numbers, bank or personal information, and private files.

Take whatever precautions you deem appropriate to protect yourself against the possibility of Identity theft.
We have likely removed the infection, but cannot be absolutely certain that some security setting hasn't been breached that would facilitate a future attack.
You should contact any financial or credit card providers and discuss prudent steps to take. Then change all your online IDs and passwords as well.

The only way to be Absolutely Certain that the machine can be trusted in the future is to save all your data files, then reformat the Hard Drive and do a Clean Install of Windows and all the applications.
If you should decide to take that step,Let me know and I can provide tutorials and detailed instructions.
-----------------------------------------------------------
AS A FINAL CLEANUP CHECK:
Post an Additional HJT Log
Reboot your computer.
Sign in as Monica. <<===== NOTE
Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

Please also post the contents from CCleaner's install.txt I asked for in the last post.
