chuky,

Hello! and welcome to the MR forums.

-Print this off so you can follow it

Be sure to look this solution over before you begin.

===============

If you haven't ran HouseCall lately, let's go back to www.trendmicro.com, download the latest definitions, and run it.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

BetterInternet
WareOut

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

If you don't already have it, let's go to Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner web-page, and follow the instructions to download and install the utility.

-

Next, run AdAware SE Personal, then:

1. Click "Add-Ons".
2. Double-click "VX2 Cleaner"
3. Click "Ok", to "Execute this tool".
4. If nothing is found, click "Ok", then exit the program.

(or)

4. If [color=#ff0000VX2</font] has been found on your system, click "Clean System"
5. Then when it's complelely done, reboot your computer.
6. Repeat steps 1-4 again.

Be sure to follow any instructions it might give while using it.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USNACQ.EXE

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

i checked the file cfgwiz32.exe and it came up clean. everything went well excpt when i tried to remove BetterInternet(which appears as 'The ABI Network - A Division of Direct Revenue'). it would direct me to a web page which states:

**********************************************************

Let's continue on with the fix...

-Print this off so you can follow it

Be sure to look this solution over before you begin.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [usnacq] c:\windows\system\usnacq.exe

O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.184.84,195.225.176.37
...(Verify that these ip addresses are for your isp's DNS Servers, )

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

c:\windows\system\usnacq.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

===============

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

chucky,

Print this off so you can follow it
-

Be sure to look this solution over before you begin.

===============

If you haven't ran HouseCall lately, let's go back to www.trendmicro.com, download the latest definitions, and run it.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USNACQ.EXE

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Well I dont see anything in your HJT Log, so lets try this

  • Download FindRK-files.zip from here. http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
  • Extract the RK-files.zip folder from zip to your desktop. (it cannot be run from the zip)
  • Reboot into safe mode. Open the RK-files folder.
  • Double click the "rkfiles.bat" icon. It can take a while to run. Leave it to do its work.
  • When the black cmd.exe window closes reboot your computer in "Normal Mode".
  • A log file was created. It is found at C:\Log.txt.
  • Locate the log and add it to your next post.
