Hey,

Welcome to MR Forums

Please copy/Print this out so you can follow it

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php? ... 5010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan

Bertha,

These first steps turned out to be more difficult than I hoped :(

First, nailfix.cmd kept telling me that process.exe didn't exist, although both files were sitting side by side on my desktop. After deleting the 'exist' check in nailfix.cmd, I could run the script. I have some doubts though if it worked properly.

Then I ran ewido. Ewido crashed twice, while trying to clean an ancient version of the 'Roger Wilco' setup file. After deleting this executable, Ewido made a third run. Th log is below.

I did the remaining steps as instructed.

Hey MR,

Ok lets try the old way, the way we used to Kill off Nail

Print this off so you can follow it

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Please do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido security suite, and perform a full scan. Remove anything found, and please save the logfile from the scan, because I will ask you to post it here for me later.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.[/quote]

Hey Bertha,

Something is not right with these cmd and bat files on my pc I think. When I double clickn remove.bat, I can see a window opening briefly. Though I can't read the text, completely, I'm sure I saw the word 'failed' :(

Anyway, the logs are below, nail.exe still there...

Hey MR,

Sorry for the wait,

Print this off so you can follow it:

Please run Hijackthis and check the following:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

With all windows closed click "fix"

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Now please boot into Noraml Mode and run an online Scan

eTrustAntiVirus - Start Scan
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Delete anything it finds
Please post back anything it finds but cannot remove and its location (Dont post the whole Log form the Scan)

Now post back a new Hijackthis Log

Hey Bertha,

Don't worry about me waiting. I'm really not in the position to complain...

Once again, when executing the bat file, I saw the word 'failed' in the window, before it disappeared.

eTrustantivirus was able to delete alle three threats it found, including nail.exe. However in the HJT log below...

This one is really stubborn.

Martijn

Hey MR,

Try this see if it makes any difference

First, nailfix.cmd kept telling me that process.exe didn't exist, although both files were sitting side by side on my desktop. After deleting the 'exist' check in nailfix.cmd, I could run the script. I have some doubts though if it worked properly

Move Nailfix and Process (etc) off the desktop and into their own folder,

But before you do that I want you to re download the parts of the fix again (deleting your exsisting copies), then do as I said above :) Once you have done that follow the fix below again :)

Bertha,

Still no luck with nailfix.cmd...

I don't consider myself a quitter, but format C: becomes an increasingly good idea...

On the other hand, I really want to kill this little bugger.

Any more ideas?

I ran Nailfix in Safe Mode, I'm quite sure.

HJT log below.

Let's move on!

Hey MR,

Print this off so you can follow it:

Ok try this for me (Please dlete any exsisitng copis of these you have)

Now please disbale Spam Inspector

C:\Program Files\GIANT Company Software\Spam Inspector\siService.exe
