Hi yvie! :)

There is no sign of infection showing in the HijackThis log, but that may not mean the computer is clean.

There are programs disabled on startup via msconfig, which need to be enabled so I can check if there is any malware hiding. You can do this by doing the following...
  • Click Start > Run > type: msconfig > OK
  • Click on the Startup tab
  • Click on Enable All
  • Click on Apply then Close
  • Click on Exit without reboot <-- Make sure you select this option
Run another scan with HijackThis and post back the new log back here.

Hi yvie

I'd like to get the icon.exe file scanned...
  • Go to VirusTotal
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the Search Box at the top of the page:
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Icon.exe
  • Click on the Send button
  • Save a copy of the results and post them in your next reply.

I also need to see another log from HijackThis.
  • Run Hijackthis.
  • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
  • Press the Save list button.
  • Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
  • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

Please post the scan results, along with the Uninstall list.

Hi Yvie!

OK, I'll be waiting for the new HijackThis log.

Can you also get your friend to do a few other things please...

1. Locate the Icon.exe file in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder. Right-click the file and select Properties. Go to the Version tab, if present, and make a note of any details found, especially next to Company. Please post the info here.

If you can't see the Icon.exe file, then make sure the computer is set up to view Hidden Files and Folders. This is how...
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
2. I need to see another log from HijackThis.

Thanks! :)

The log you just posted is similar to the very first one and it is not showing all the programs. Please make sure ALL programs are enabled in msconfig and repost a new HijackThis log please.
