Hello blueranger,

Yes you may delete previous logs as we have them here. Thanks for checking Uninstall entries and the logs. :)

SSDT \??\C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\paraudio.sys ZwSetValueKey looks similar to hidport.sys we previously did remove, it has a rootkit behavior .. e.g. to hide other stuff and prevent access to some things.

I would like a copy of that file too please if possible. Instructions are below.
______________________________

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
______________________________

Combofix has been updated. Please delete combofix.exe on your desktop and re-download new version.

Download this file - combofix.exe to your desktop. It has to be on your desktop since we need to launch the tool with a switch.
______________________________

Disconnect from Internet !

Click start > run > type cmd.exe and hit enter.

A CMD window will open, type the following command followed by enter.

sc config "paraudio" start= disabled > %systemdrive%\state.txt

(followed by enter)

Close the CMD window.

Note : you might get errors ... it's not important. The command will create a log, I will need that later on.
______________________________

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Start Suspicious File Packer - sfp.exe on your desktop.

Paste the following list of bad files into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\paraudio.sys

Allow SFP to pack the files. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.
______________________________

Click start > run
Copy & Paste this line and hit enter:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /wow

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
______________________________

Run HijackThis, click on None of the above, just start the program, click on Scan. Put a check in the box on the left side of the following items if still present:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.7255.com/

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click Fix Checked
______________________________

Using Windows Explorer, Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp
Click Edit, click Select All, press the DELETE key, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all the items to the Recycle Bin.

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp
Click Edit, click Select All, press the DELETE key, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all the items to the Recycle Bin.

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

Quit Internet Explorer, all browsers and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.

For Internet Explorer 4.x and Up
  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
  • In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
  • On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
  • Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
  • Click OK.
For Netscape 4.x and Up
  • Click Edit from the Netscape menubar.
  • Click Preferences... from the Edit menu.
  • Expand the Advanced menu by clicking the triangle sign.
  • Click Cache.
  • Click both the Clear Memory Cache and the Clear Disk Cache buttons.
For Mozilla 1.x and Up
  • Click Edit from the Mozilla menubar.
  • Click Preferences... from the Edit menu.
  • Expand the Advanced menu by clicking the plus sign.
  • Click Cache.
  • Click the Clear Cache button.
For Opera
  • Click File from the Opera menubar.
  • Click Preferences... from the File menu.
  • Click the History and Cache menu.
  • Click the two Clear buttons next to Typed in addresses and Visited addresses (history) and click the Empty now button to clear the Disk cache.
  • Click Ok to close the Preferences menu.
Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then click Empty Recycle Bin.
______________________________

Reboot in Normal Mode.

You may now connect to Internet.

Please click on the link below.
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/ind ... ;board=1.0

You will be taken to a new post page (at a different forum)
In the subject box put Chinese infection for Kimberly
Please put your name and email in the box. In the message portion, please paste this:
Code: Select all
Infected file for Kimberly
Suspect: paraudio.sys
logfile: http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14727

Then, by the attach bar at the bottom, hit 'browse'. Navigate to your desktop and find the file below and hit ok:

requested-files[2006-10-27_xx_xx].cab

The filename may not be exactly this but it will end in .cab

Then click submit to upload that file. That way our experts can analyse the file.
______________________________

Please post:

c:\state.txt
c:\combofix.log
A new hijackthis log

Once the logs posted, try to limit your Internet access please until I get back to you.

Thanks :)

Can you perform this too please after you followed the instructions from my last post :

Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document. Make sure that wordwrap is turned off. (Format > uncheck wordwrap)

regedit /e /a %systemdrive%\regkey1.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BootVerificationProgram"
regedit /e /a %systemdrive%\regkey2.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SchedulingAgent"
Copy %systemdrive%\regkey1.txt + %systemdrive%\regkey2.txt = %systemdrive%\keys.txt
del /q %systemdrive%\regkey1.txt
del /q %systemdrive%\regkey2.txt
notepad %systemdrive%\key.txt

Save it to your Desktop as regkey.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name:regkey.bat

Locate regkey.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply.

Hello

Good Morning Kim, :P

I am at work at the moment  but will run the logs you requested when I get home :) . I will post all the logs by 6pm tonight (gmt).

I note that you have asked me to avoid internet access which is fine. To avoid me constantly checking for a reply from you, if I post my logs by 6pm today when do you think you will respond as I will not go on my pc again until then. :?:

Bye

Good afternoon Mark,

My time is GMT + 1, so I will be around when you post the logs. Just the time to read them and I'll reply to your topic. :)

Some additional logs I need when you did perform the fix please.

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click Back and Click on Scan. When the scan is finished, click Save Log and paste the content in your reply.
______________________________

There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double click gmer.exe.
Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
If no warning....
Click the rootkit tab
To the right of the program you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked... leave everything checked. Then click the Scan button. Wait for the scan to finish.
Once done click the Copy button.
Open Notepad and hit ctrl+v to paste the log. Save the log to your desktop please.

Click the >>> tab. This will open up all available tabs for you.
Click the Autostart tab then the scan button. Once its done click the Copy button and paste it into a new notepad document. Save that document to your desktop please.

Post the 2 gmer logs and the hijackthis startuplist too please.

Unread postby blueranger » October 27th, 2006, 12:55 pm

Hi Kim,

I am struggling with your request for me to copy/paste your comments to my desktop and save as regkey.bat.

When I double click the file is running but their is nothing to copy into the notepad file that opens as dos is remaining open.

Shall I proceed with the tasks on your e-mail this afternoon?

Thanks

I made a small typo in opening the file. Close Notepad and CMD window.

Locate c:\regkeys.txt and post content please.

Yes please, proceed with rest of instructions. :)

While busy, perform this too please :

Download Bobbi Flekman's RegSearch from
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/regsearch.php

Create a folder for RegSearch on the C: drive called C:\RegSearch. You can do this by going to My Computer then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it RegSearch. Extract all the files from the zip archive into that folder.

Open the RegSearch folder and double-click the icon for RegSearch.exe to launch the program.
Copy / Paste the following line into the Search Box:

nt.sys

next line enter paraudio

then hit Ok

After completion Notepad will be opened with all the found instances of the string. The resulting file is saved in the same location as RegSearch.exe.
