Register to Remove

Unread postby lerm » October 5th, 2006, 12:09 pm

I downloaded Trojan Remover Free Trial and it found Zlob.Trojan and I renamed it when prompted. Now my IE is no longer being hijacked, so seems to be okay.

I am assuming it is still on my system, but harmless because renamed. Is that safe or is full removal necessary?

Perhaps when I originally ran SmitFraudFix and spyware scanners and removers in Safe Mode, I should have disabled System Restore before it all then rebooted?

Is there anything else in my Log that is cause for concern, though?

Many Thanks. Lerm

Hi lerm,

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  • Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  • Please reply to this thread, do not start another.
  • Please do not install more removal tools now or try to remove anything until I have checked to see if it needs to be removed.
Removal tools can remove legit files that neeed to stay. We don't want to keep starting over.

If you can do those four things, everything should go smoothly

Hi lerm,

Your are still showing signs of infections.
First things first.

Your are running two virus programs that is very bad You must disable one or uninstall it. This is why

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. Which leaves you open to infection.

If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, it runs in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an on-access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.
