Hi djrpok and welcome to malwareremoval forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi djrpok

You may want to print these instructions for reference

We have a few malware processes and files which we need to get rid of.
Please be patient, and follow all of the instructions as given. Please do not reboot unless it is part
of the fix, or you have no other choice. While you are following the fix, you will find it helpful to have
a pen and paper handy to take any notes, so you can let me know what happens.
Typical information that will be helpful will be:
  • Files or folders that will not delete properly
  • Any errors that occur when following a fix or during bootup
  • Notes on your system's operation (sluggish internet, popups, etc)
  • The more information we have, the better our chances to clean your system!

Next please download ewido antispyware from http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it.
  • After ewido is downloaded and installed, it should automatically update itself.
  • The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate "Resident Shield," then right click on ewido in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows."
  • If Ewido does not update itself, do it manually. Go to the toolbar and find "Update." Under manual Update click "Start Update."
  • Exit ewido.

You don't appear to be running an antivirus program

Before we go any further lets secure your computer to avoid any further risk of infection

There are many antivirus products out there
and at first
with there being so many different products it may look confusuing to you
some are free products and others are fully licienced products. It is up to you which you go for. For free antivirus product I would be looking at either Avast Home edition or AVG Free edition. If you are going to be looking at fully licienced software then I would seriously consider either Nod32 or kaspersky Antivirus products
both are excellent in their job of keeping viruses at bay.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)
WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp
Click Edit, click Select All, press the DELETE key, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all the items to the Recycle Bin.

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

  • Click OK.
Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido and run a full scan.

  • Under How to scan? All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Possibly unwanted software: All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Reports:Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
  • Under What to scan?Select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan the machine.
  • When the scan has finished:
  • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
  • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)

    Image
  • When done, click the Save Scan Report button.
  • Click the Save Report as button.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

:) Thank you again for your help.
Re: your comments
I do have an anti-virus that I pay for- Trend Micro PC-Cillin
After reading into Malwareremoval.com, I downloaded and Used Ewido. ait found and I eliminated a whole load of bad stuff.
My problems are
Computer very slow
100% CPU for any program.
Videos play in start and stop, where the clock takes 10 sec to do 1 sec.
Frequently the audio is finished before the video starts.

Continuation

Unread postby djrpok » September 3rd, 2006, 2:24 pm

Followed your instructions.
Removed the 4 HijackThis entries you suggested.
C:\Windows\Temp- removed all but T30 Debuglogfile. Said it is being used by another person or program. I have received this message many times before although there is no one else using my system.
C:\ D&S....removed all but favorites and shortcuts. I was afraid I would lose them.
Customize Desktop button only had current home page. No security info or like.
Ewido took 11 hrs, 1 object, Adware.VMN
Currently doing Kaspersky Online Scanner. I'm not sure I will live long enough to complete it. 1759 files, 0 viruses,60 minutes.

New HjT

Unread postby djrpok » September 3rd, 2006, 6:17 pm

:( After 2 hrs and 2% computer and Kaspersky shut off.
Rebooted.
No real improvement in performance.
New HjT. I note that there are many items related to Symantec. I haven't used S in a long time and don't use them now.

Hi djrpok
Would still be helpful to know what symtoms You have . Its very hard to cure - if I don't not know what is wrong.
Did you save the ewido report log for me I really needed to see it
going to give you another online scanner to try.
Do appreciate you are having problems in scanning but i need something to research.
---------------------------
you may find this link will help if you have problems with the following program removal

http://service1.symantec.com/support/na ... 2114452606

Delete all the norton installed programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)
WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Before you doo the scan I want you to run this program

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Now go to Panda active scan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Please include panda scan log and uninstall list, plus a New HJT log
in your next post
Thanks dan

Thanks again for your help.
The main symptom is what I would call extreme slowness. The kind where you can make a sandwich while waiting for a program to load. I have another computer here hooked up to the same system and its performance is dramatically better ( such that I wouldn't bother you with it ).
I will follow your instructions and get back to you.

To give you an idea of what is happening, I will describe what I am facing now.
Last night I initiated a scan with Ewido before going to sleep.
This morning the computer is frozen with Ewido stuck at 291,219 after 10hrs 26 min 34 sec.
I am at 100% cpu, pf useage at 573 mb and the little action light is flashing as if something is running.
Its been like this for 3 hrs now.
I will just unplug the computer and start over.
