I looked in add and remove and I don't see it in there. I see AVG Free edition. But, I don't see the other one. I remember downloading the other one a long time ago before I had AVG and I thought I got rid of it. I guess not.....

I'm even more confused now because I know what your talking about, and AntiVirPersonalEditionClassic is different from AVG but if you look at this again:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avgnt] "C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe" /min

You see the [avgnt], and the avgnt.exe? I searched for avgnt.exe just to be sure and look what processlibrary says:

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/avgnt/

"avgnt.exe is a part of the Grisoft Internet security suite"

Hey but I don't know what I'm doing, so maybe you can help clear up the confusion. I just don't want to have to re-download AVG or anything.

Hi cyberfreak

For now skip do not fix that line or delete file. I will need to do a little research on that. Continue with rest of fix.

Hello cyberfreak,

Smitfraudfix has been updated please delete the one you have now and download the updated one. Please do the following.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) put on your desktop.
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have talk to one of MRU's Site Admin. / Teacher and found out that the Process Library needs to update thier database that file in related to AntiVir not Grisoft. We will take care of this later run Smitfraudfix first and post back.

Hello cyberfreak,
Please do the following.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

    • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
    • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Note: If the Update now option is grayed out, follow the steps below.
      • Click on Update on the toolbar.
      • Under Manual update, click on the Start Update button.

Hi cyberfreak,

Viewpoint Media Player...From your uninstall list some information on this.
Viewpoint components are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player's components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting "Disable auto?updating for the Viewpoint Manager" ?? the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Need to update Java
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can and are using to infect systems.

Click Start>Run, type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter.
From the list, uninstall
  • Malware Wipe 4.2<<<This one has to go bad
  • Viewpoint Media Player<<<If you want to remove if not leave.
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1
  • Java Web Start.
Reboot to finish uninstalling.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment, and install it to your computer.
reboot when finiished installing

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
These programs can prevent malware clearing. Please disable them if you have them running.

Disable Ewido

Open ewido On Ewido screen look at Resident Shield click on change state to make it inactive
From the system tray:
1. Right-click the system tray icon
2. Choose Exit.

Spywareguard
  • Open Spywareguard
  • Click on Menu
  • Click on File
  • Exit.

Don't forget to re-start SpywareGuard when your machine is clean.

Windows Defender
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools => General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
  • Click Save
  • Close Windows Defender
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This looks like it was left from and uninstall will need to remove.
Stop and Disable Process
  • Go to Start>Run
  • Type in services.msc
  • Hit Enter
  • Locate VET Message Service right click choose Properties
  • Stop the service and change the Startup Type to Disabled

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's delete that service

  • Start HijackThis...
  • Click "Config" button
  • Click "Misc Tools" button
  • click "Delete an NT Service" button
  • Copy and Paste the bold text below in the "Delete an NT Service" window
    • VETMSGNT
  • Click "OK"
Leave HJT open for next step.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Start HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:(some may not be present just move to next)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avgnt] "C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe" /min

After you check these items, close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis, then click on the Fix Checked button on HijackThis.
-------------------------------------------------------
If they are already set to show hidden file skip to boot into safe mode next step
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)

Select the Tools menu (at top of screen) and click Folder Options.

After the new window appears select the View tab.

Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.

Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.

Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.

Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site: http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
You MUST manage to get into Safe Mode for the fix to work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deleting Files and Folders

Use Explorer to navigate to and delete the following folder (if they are present):

Folders:

  • C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Reboot normally and let know how your computer is running now.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please post these in your next reply:
